Does practically protect against everything, including for example:
- piercing damage
- damage over time, like poison or burn
- reflected damage (from Frost Shape)
- self-inflicted damage (from Hand of Glory)
Does not protect against:
- loss of max life, like from Drain Life
Note that the card responsible for the damage won't be countered, only it's damage is negated, so other effects of the card will apply, like Chill or benefits for the attacker.
